Discover: Conset Bay Fish Market
13th October, 2014Located in one of the many sheltered bays of St. John, Conset Bay has a quaint fish market oozing with Bajan charm. As you drive down the main hill towards Conset Bay you cannot miss it, veer to the right and its right there at the bottom. A small building, framed with old Barbadian fishing boats and of course, fishermen either 1. bringing in their catch of the day 2. selling their fish or 3. slamming dominoes!
There is a pier, about 200 feet into the ocean, which boats use to temporarily tie up and off load their catch or fishermen use hand lines to reel in small fish. You as a visitor can also walk out onto it and take in the beautiful surrounding views of Conset Bay and to the North, Bath Beach. Now, this is not only a place to play, but you can buy your fresh fish straight off the fishermen at great prices! As we arrived at Conset Bay last time, there was a fishing boat now coming in from a morning of spear fishing. Their catch included Parrot Fish, Chub, Lion Fish, Blue Fin Tuna and Lobsters! You can imagine what we left with!
Next time you are taking a tour of the East Coast of Barbados, do not forget to give this little bay with such big personality a visit!
