Off the Beaten Track : Mount Hillaby Barbados

7th November, 2012
View from one of the points on Mount Hillaby Barbados

Barbados is a relatively flat island compared to many of the other Caribbean Islands. The highest point in Barbados is Mount Hillaby located in St. Andrew where its peak rests at 1115 FT high or 341 meters above sea level. Mount Hillaby boasts amazing views of the East, North and West coasts of the island and immediately overlooks the Scotland district. It was quite an adventure getting to the top of Mount Hillaby as there are so many small winding roads along the way. It definitely was a scenic drive as we passed many gullies, beautiful views and exotic floura and fauna. We will be sure to feature some of our discoveries from this trip on the blog in the next few weeks to come! Have you ever been to Mount Hillaby? What was your take on it.

This was a great adventure driving along the west coast then up through the hilly ,rural interior of the island. I had no idea that there would be large cattle farms and sugar cane fields strewn over the fertile hills of inland Barbados. As we ventured up the hills to mt. Hillary area viewpoints we could see the blue waters along the west coast of Barbados and then the white breaking Atlantic rollers along the east coast . It was a beautiful, picturesque scenic view through the palms and lush green vegetation on mt. Hillary to the blue-green tourqoise waters of the Caribbean. We thoroughly enjoyed the magnicant views and sites along the hilly road back down into the residential areas on the west coast. It was a nice break from just sitting at the beach , as Barbados is noted for gorgeous ones and it is fantastic to see them as well, but to see the other areas of the island was grand too for a change of pace.14735

We would love to hear what you think.
