What's Happening: St Lucy Destination 439 Judging

29th October, 2015
Team 439 St Lucy Barbados

It is incredible, not to mention inspiring, when you see a community like Team 439 of St.Lucy band together to achieve a common goal and make not only their Parish but also Barbados a better place! We were invited to attend the judging of the St. Lucy Parish Independence Committee's community based tourism project. The committee outlined the different phases of the project and what has been done within the parish to encourage community based tourism.

Team 439

It was wonderful to see first hand all the people involved and how passionate they all are about this project and their parish. Janice and her team have enthusiastically implemented and organized from social events to school based educational projects for the youth to even restoration projects.

They have started the beautification process of River Bay by adding a lovely mural and cleaning up the showers and other recreational areas in this stunning natural attraction. The 439 team also implemented a clean up within St.Lucy and used their resources to add a large amount of bins to the parish. School children were also involved and asked to create a 3D version of tourist attractions and well known building in St Lucy. There were models of Fustic House, St. Lucy Parish Church, Moon Town, Mount Gay Distillery and Animal Flower Cave.  Given the youth with will no doubt be the future of Barbados, team 439 has paid special attention to education of these said youth about community Based tourism.

All in all it was a lovely evening spent in St. Lucy with the 439 team! The judging went very well and the team was given feedback on the overall presentation. The parish winner will be announced on the 21st November! So look out to see which parish committee in Barbados has excelled in the community based tourism project!
