In Season: Passion Fruit
10th August, 2016There is no other fruit that screams Caribbean essence like the passion fruit. Not only is its rich bright colourful pulp pleasing to the eye, and its sweet aroma delightful to the nose, but it’s the tantalizing and explosive flavour of its fruity pulp that reminds us so much of home! The passion fruit vine (Passiflora edulis) is native to Southern Brazil and was introduced to Barbados sometime around the 19th century. The almost round fruit has a tough waxy rind that ranges in colour from dark shades of purple to pale yellow. The inside of the passion fruit is a rich bright yellow with a number of small black seeds encased in the tangy pulp of the fruit. The aroma is extremely strong and will fill any room with tropical scents even before the fruit has been cut open. Passion fruit is packed with vitamins and nutrients and is usually blended and served up as an ice cold fruit juice, popular among locals.

PHD Passion Fruit
For some reason I cannot stand the real passion fruit. But I love Pine Hill Dairy's passion fruit drink. Isn't that strange?
We would love to hear what you think.
