Explore: Lover's Leap
9th June, 2015Lover's leap is located on the cliff's of Harrison Point Light House, St.Lucy! The dark and gloomy legend has it that the daughter of one of St.Lucy's eldest residents, Mr. Cox. had fallen madly in love with a navel officer (from the nearby naval base) and accepted his hand in marriage. On hearing this the father immediately objected to this union, and as a result the couple decided to elope. One starry night the naval officer brought a small boat to whisk his soon to be wife away. The plan was for her climb down the cliffs safely to the boat below. When this matter became apparent to Mr. Cox he tried to put a halt to it! However, rather than listen to her father, she threw herself off the cliff, breaking her neck. In absolute despair the naval officer shot himself. Since then, the Cliff has been knows as Lover's Leap.
This Poem is said to be written about the incident that took place:
“Oh haste thee: haste,
The lady cries,
Through tempest round us gather,
I'll meet the raging of the skies, but not thy raging father."
