Holding on to Heritage: Changing of the Sentry

17th March, 2014
Changing go the Sentry

The Changing of the Sentry is a mini ceremony which pays tribute to the military history of Barbados. Taking place every .... at 11.45 AM, the changing of the sentry dates back to the 1700's and features members of the Barbados Legion marching past the sentry post at the clock tower.  The retired member's of various military units are the individuals who perform and are dressed in colonial attire, the colourful Zauave Uniforms. These uniforms were the official dress of the West Indian Regiment, the infantry unit of the British Army recruited from and normally stationed in the British colonies of the Caribbean between 1795 and 1975.

This reenactment demonstrates the great wealth of Barbados Military history!
