Restaurant Review: Sitar Restaurant

Poppadoms At Sitar Restaurant Barbados

So in our opinion some of the best Indian food in Barbados is from Sitar Restaurant in 2nd Street, Holetown. We had a little dinner outing to Sitar a few weeks ago and once again it knocked our socks off with the interesting Indian punch it offers. Firstly, every table receives a portion of naan bread compliments of the chef (the Indian version of a "bread basket"), which is a nice addition to your meal; I mean who does not like (or rather love) Naan. For our starters we chose to go with Onion Bagiis, Lamb Samosas and Paneer Tikka (cottage cheese cooked in a tandoori oven).  As usual their samosmas were delicious and full of interesting indian spices such as Cumin and Garum Masala; if you like lamb you will definitely devour these spicy morsels of goodness. We of course had to order pappadums- cripsy and fresh, they paired amazingly with the 3 sauces- mango chutney, chopped onions and cucumber yogurt sauce.

The onion bagiis are fritters made of spicy onion which really get your taste buds going.

The Paneer Tikka was an interesting starter, not exactly what we expected, it had more like a tofu consistency rather than cottage cheese but still had that smokey oven taste that the tandoor oven gives off.

Now onto our main course, feeling a tad full we were anxiously expecting our curries. We ordered medium Shrimp Korma, spicy Beef Madras and medium Butter Chicken with basmati rice and of course naan bread; both plain and onion and garlic. Sitar serves their Indian food, both curries and side dishes in authentic Indian bowls which encourage sharing. The Korma had small pieces of shaved fresh coconut and a subtle almond flavor which worked well with the tender shrimp. The butter chicken (which is a tomato and cream based curry) is one of those  dishes that you will go back to again and again, the chicken being slow cooked and as tender and it can get. The beef madras was a hearty curry with a good amount of spice! This curry is red in colour and has quite a heavy chili flavour.

The naan bread is so good for dipping and getting all that curry sauce from your bowl/plate. No using knife and forks here! Get in there with your hands!
