7th April, 2016Barbados is well known for its beautiful beaches, amazing views and fantastic food. But sun, sand and sea are not the only special qualities this little island gem has to offer. Small in size but full of extraordinary character, Barbados is a popular spot for golfers and golf enthusiast alike. We have a number of amazing golf courses and have even had the honor, of hosting the 2006 World Golf Championships World Cup. So where are the best spots to perfect that hole-in-one? Loop Barbados is here to provide you with a few options.
1. The Barbados Golf Club: Located on the South coast of the island, The Barbados Golf Club opened its doors in the year 2000. The course is laid out in two returning 9-hole circuits that finish on either side of a lake in front of the clubhouse. Unlike most clubs which focus more on exclusivity, The Barbados Golf Club club markets itself as a club for all and is always open to players at any level.
2. Apes Hill Golf Club: This is one of the newest championship golf courses in the Caribbean. Opened in late 2009, Apes Hill Golf Club enjoys a prime location with a picturesque view of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean as far as the eye can see. The golf course was recently rated one of the best in the world and has gained international recognition as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for its environmental and wildlife preservation efforts, thus becoming one of only 2% of all golf courses in the world to earn such certification.
3. Sandy Lane Country Club: First opened in 2001 the Sandy Lane Golf Club is accessible to all golfers. This acclaimed club is known for the hosting of the World Golf Championships World Cup in 2006. The layout offers spectacular golfing with a number of memorable holes along the greens.
4. Royal Westmoreland: Located on the West coast of Barbados, the Royal Westmoreland Golf Course offers a par 72, 7,045-yard course designed by acclaimed course designer, Robert Trent Jones Jnr. The first few holes ease you gently into the game, but rest assured this course has a number of challenging holes to concur before reaching the sanctuary of the lush club house.
5. Sandy Lane Green Monkey: This premium course first gained fame after Tiger Woods visited during his honeymoon in 2004. This extremely exclusive course is available primarily to guests of the Sandy Lane hotel. However, if you are given an opportunity to traverse these well sought after greens, you can guarantee an amazing golfing experience. If your looking for a memorable course to tee off, the Green Monkey golf course is the place for you!
