Barbados Food Rum and Wine Festival: Sizzle Street

23rd November, 2012
Welcome to Sizzle Street Barbados

As soon as we heard of the Barbados Food Rum and Wine Festival Sizzle Street event at Queen's Park we jumped at the opportunity. What a perfect way to bring all of Barbados' favorite local foods and snacks together in one place for everyone to try and better yet, enjoy. Sizzle Street was overflowing with laughter, love, locals and travelers in great spirits just enjoying the real thing - down to earth, authentic Bajan cuisine. There were a variety of stalls standing tall around Queen's Park, from the Cou-Cou Village to Cuz's Fish Stand. Not only was there an abundance of food but also good ole Bajan entertainment. The calypso songs were blasting through the park and the stage was alight with the Wuk Up Work Out pros. The result, a bandwagon of both children and adults dancing (or rather wuking up) and having the time of their lives.

A few of our picks from Sizzle Street were the smoked ribs from the Smoke Pit; juicy and tender ribs laced with their very own homemade BBQ concoction. This interesting stall really pulled everyone in with its delicious BBQ smell, and then once you arrived the sight of freshly smoked meat made it almost impossible to resist. You just wanted to try every bit that was on their menu, some of the most popular included the pulled pork, BBQ ribs and smoked fries.

Of course we can always vouch for our favourite fish cutter from Cuz's Fish stand which is a big hit with locals and tourists. Another little stall called Heritage Delightz was cooking up some authentic Bajan cuisine- famous Independence conkies, pelau, chicken necks, macaroni pie, fish and one of a kind BBQ pigtails.

Sizzle Street was a medley of Barbadian culture wrapped up in one place. From the food, to the entertainment to the locals dancing, laughing and having a great time- It really summed up how food can bring people together as one.

We are looking forward to next years Food Wine and Rum Festival in Barbados! Hope you are too!
