What's Happening: Barbados Events October 2011

Will you be traveling to Barbados in October 2011? Well then you may need to know what is going on. Below is a list of majority of the special events taking place in Barbados in October 2011. Hope you can make it!

Event 1. Barbados Arts Council "Little Gems"Group Show-  Located at Pelican Craft Centre, Harbour Road, Bridgetown this exhibition will feature the works of 20-30 artists and runs from 18th September - 8th of October (9.30 AM - 5.00PM). Call (246) 426-4385 for more information.
 

Event 2. Leandro Soto Exhibition - This art showing will exhibit a selection of Leandro Soto's drawings and sketches in different techniques and materials. His inspirations are rooted in human expression and can be viewed between September 20th 2011- 15th December 2011(8.30 AM-2.00PM) at the Art Splash Centre Hastings, Christ Church, (246) 228-0776.

Event 3. Oistins Fish Fry - Running through the whole month of October, this fishing town - overflowing with culture - is where locals and tourists alike come together to enjoy fresh food, easy entertainment and ice cold drinks.  Although you can go any night of the week, the most popular night is Friday (between 5.45PM and 12.AM). Get there early to awe at the breath taking sunset, select your seating which is rustic and nestled between craft vendors or along the beach and relax with either a ice cold Banks beer or a aged rum and coke. Dress is comfortable and casual and if you so desire, wear your dancing shoes and join the locals in their "Wuk Up" dance.

Event 4. Barbados Surfing Association Nationals - On the 8th and 9th of October (8.30 AM - 5.30 PM) come to Soup Bowl, Bathsheba, St. Joseph - one of the top surfing breaks in the world - and experience the island's most seasoned surfers competing for one of the most prestigious names in Barbados and Caribbean Surfing. Come and Watch these surfers battle it out while enjoying the day-into-night beach party.

Event 5. Barbados Bakery and Pastry Expo - On October 8th and 9th at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre is an event hosting several different activities, providing a platform whereby vendors sell their freshly baked cakes and pastries, companies and suppliers display their products, competitors strive to become the Pastry Champions of the Country, experts meet their clients and customers and finally a fashion show which will focus on chocolate and sugar for fashion. So head on down to Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre for the 'most anticipated culinary event of the year'.

Event 6. Barbados National Trust Fun Walk - Explore parts of Barbados many visitors don't get to view on their regular island tours. There are three tours available every sunday in October: morning (6.00 AM), afternoon (3.30 PM) and moonlight (5.30 PM). All hikes are free but donations are welcomed. Call (246) 426-2421 to make arrangements for a hike like no other.

Event 7. Barbados Arts Council "Our Caribbean" Group Show-  Located at Pelican Craft Centre, Harbour Road, Bridgetown this exhibition will feature the works of 20-30 artists and runs from 9th October - 5th November (9.30 AM - 5.00PM). Call (246) 426-4385 for more information.

Event 8. The Barbados Museum Exhibition of Scientific Illustrations of Natural History Subjects - Between the 17th October and 10th December 2011 (9.00AM - 5.00PM) at the Barbados Museum, St Ann Garrison,  twenty-two pieces which display how artists viewed the world from the 16th Century through to present day will be on display. So whether you are going to relax and take in the art at Pelican Village or dance the night away with locals at Oistins Fish Fry, your choices are abundant and diverse!
