24th March, 2014
The Main guard clock tower Barbados

You will find the Main Guard Clock Tower positioned in the centre of the Historical Garrison Savannah located in Christ Church Barbados. The Clock Tower of the Main Guard was constructed around 1803 by Dwerrihouse and Carter of London. The tower bears the coat of arms , however this was later added in the early 1800s. The Main Guard Clock Tower is one of the most outstanding buildings architecturally and has a unique George III Coat of Arms, in Coade stone, which was designed specially for this building.

In 1906, the Main Guard was bought locally and converted into the exclusive Savannah Club, nonetheless it is presently owned by the Barbados Government.  When passing the Garrison, the clock tower chimes away to let everyone know the time of day. It is also the location where the fascinting and historical changing of the sentry ceremony takes place.
