Holding onto Heritage: Heroes Day Barbados

26th April, 2013
Happy Heros Day from us at Loop Barbados

This weekend marks National Heroes Day in Barbados as it is commemorated on the 28th April every year (the date of birth of Sir Grantley Adams). This day recognizes 10 specified heroes which have positively impacted Barbados in the past and have molded it into a country which we are very proud of today. The former Prime Minister announced in 1998 that Trafalgar Square would be re-named Heroes Square to honour the 10 National Heroes. This square is located just across the street from the Parliament Buildings in the capital of Barbados- Bridgetown. The 10 National Heros of Barbados are:  Charles Duncan O'neal, Bussa, Clement Osbourne Payne, Errol Walton Barrow, Samuel Jackman Prescod, Sarah Ann Gill, Sir Frank Walcott, Sir Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers, Sir Grantley Adams and Sir Hugh Springer. Take a look here for a brief insight into each hero!

Have you ever heard of any of our National Heroes?
