Barbados Blooms: Oleander/ Milk Bush

23rd October, 2014
Oleander/ Milk Bush

These pretty as can be flowering shrubs can be seen in many local gardens across Barbados. The most common coloured flowers you will find from the Oleander are pink, white and yellow. With its deep green waxy coated leaves, this shrub attracts many butterflies and resident birds. As mentioned above the Oleander is also know as the milk bush as if you cut the shrub, milk will flow right on out! You must be cautious, as this milk is not only poisonous but will also blister your skin if not washed off quickly. Such a beautiful plant which adorns our island!
